Preparation

Bio-Seeding:

Before

Remove and discard existing vegetation (mow, kill, pull, etc.).

Remove rocks golf ball size and larger.

Amend the soil with our Bio-Logic Compost or ask out special blended topsoil.

Till (if necessary) and grade the yard (core aeration may be good enough).

Use a lawn roller to level and lightly compact to ensure it keeps its final shape.

Soak with water at least 48 hours prior to seeding (the soil needs to be dry enough for us to walk on the day of seeding) and fix areas where water puddles.

After

Water lawn immediately with a fine mist (do not over water).

Keep moist for 21 days.

Topdressing:

Before

Mow your lawn to 2-3 inches.

Do not water; leave your lawn dry for topdressing application.

Core aerate for faster, better results (optional but recommended for poor compact soils).

Over-seed thin areas if needed (ask us to add this service to your package!)

After

Water in compost as soon as possible.

Mow your lawn anytime…just do not back your grass!

Lawn Care Tips

Mowing Tips:

  • Although there are ideal mowing heights for different types of grass, a height of 3 inches is a good target to shoot for. Longer grass allows for a stronger, deeper root system. Do not cut your grass too short especially during the hot, dry periods!! A lawn with a strong root system is much more resistant to drought and disease.
  • Mow regularly. No more than 1/3 of your grass blade should be taken off in one cutting. Mow high and mow often.
  • Mulch your lawn, do not bag it! Your lawn wants the organic matter from you grass clippings. Returning the clippings to your lawn puts essential nutrients back into your soil and is a great fertilizer.
  • Keep your lawn mower blades razor sharp. Have your blades sharpened every 4-6 weeks.

Watering Tips:

  • During dry weather, you should water every 2-3 days, heavy enough to saturate your soil without flooding it. For best results, water in shorter intervals to allow for better water infiltration. For example, if you have 5 zones that need watered for 30 minutes each, run 3 consecutive cycles, watering each zone for 10 minutes per cycle.
  • In the hot, dry summer, your lawn needs a minimum of 1 ½ inches of water weekly. Use a measuring cup until you figure out the right setting for your sprinkler system.
  • Adjust your sprinkler system timer several times during the season to reduce water waste and give your grass exactly what it needs.
  • Make sure you are watering your lawn and not the road and sidewalks. Have a sprinkler professional check your system for proper coverage.
  • Mornings (before 9 am) are the best time to water.
    • Resist watering during the hot and dry afternoons since much of the water evaporates before it is absorbed into the soil.
    • Evening watering can lead to plant disease.

Interesting Facts

The EPA estimates that increasing the organic matter content in topsoil by 1% will increase its water holding capacity by 16,000 gallons per acre.

Compost creates a Micro-mulch (like mulching around a tree to conserve water and prevent weeds) for your grass, holding water & nutrients and preventing weeds.

The EPA estimates that only 2% of herbicides and 35% of synthetic fertilizers are utilized; the rest volatizes into the air or leaches into the ground water, polluting the environment.

Ideal soil contains 45% balanced minerals, 25% water, 25% air, and 5% organic matter.  Bio-Logic Soil Builders will help achieve these ratios.
